Adding a Label

Start by double clicking the Setup node.

When in the setup node, right-click, select Label 3D or UI -> Label for a 2D label. You can also add labels through the setup tab by pressing the 3D or 2D label button after simulating the node.

2D Labels

To make 2D labels visible in the editor window, toggle the UI button at the top of the editor window.

clicking on the label in the setup window will give you access to its properties in the properties panel through various menus.

Appearance Menu: Alters the appearance of your label

  • Is Highlighted: Will toggle a highlight around your label.
  • Highlight color: will edit the color of the highlight.
  • Opacity: will control the level of transparency of your label.
  • Is Visible: will toggle the visibility of your label on or off.
  • Tooltip: will add a small text that will appear if you hover and wait over the label in the player window.

2D Layout Menu: controls the 2D properties of your label.

  • Anchor: will attach the label to a fixed location on the screen.
  • Offset Y&X: will offset the position from the anchored/fixed location.
  • Height & Width: will edit the size of the label.
  • A & R: are toggles that will use Absolute Coordinates or Relative Coordinates system.
  • Absolute Coordinates: will use the data you selected.
  • Relative Coordinates: will edit the data to be relative to the size of screen.

The 2D label can also be resize and positioned in the editor window by adjusting the text box.

Label Menu: Makes changes to the labels text

  • Text: Will change what the label reads on the screen.
  • Background Color: will edit the color of the background.
  • Word Wrap: Will wrap the text box around the text.
  • Text Color: This will change the color of the text.
  • Font: Will change the font of the text.
  • Auto Size: Will re-size the background to match the horizontal and vertical size of the given text.
  • Auto Height: Will re-size the background height to match the vertical height of the given text.
  • Scale: Will increase or decrease the overall size of the text.
  • Horizontal/Vertical Alignment: will anchor the text in relation to the text box.

3D Label

Click on the 3D label object in the setup window to access its properties panel. The 3D Label may not be initially positioned in front of the camera. You will have to use the properties panel to reposition the text so that it is visible in your scene.

Transform Menu:

Used to alter the position and rotation of the 3D text. The Take from Editor Camera button will reposition the text to the position of the camera in the editor window. Be sure to back up the camera after using this option so that your text is in front of the camera and not behind it.

A 3D label can also be resized and positioned using the gizmos in the editor window while the 3D label is selected in the setup window.

A 3D label is meant to be parented with a 3D model.

Local Transform menu:

  • Parent: Used to parent your label to a 3D model, to parent your label to the model, drag the model from you editor window or from the setup node and drop it in the empty Parent name slot.
  • Local Scale: This property will scale the text in size.

Text Menu: Alters the label text.

  • Font: Changes the font.
  • Color: Changes the color of text.
  • Font Size: Changes the size of the text.
  • Font Style: Changes the style to bold, italic, or both.
  • Line Spacing: Changes how many spaces there are between lines of text.
  • Text: Changes the actual label text.
